It’s important to get your morning off to a good start at home. Your morning can easily lose momentum if you fail to set and maintain the tone before you even get to the office/workplace. Luckily, we have discovered some great tips to get your day off to a great start. A good morning routine can make or break your day. The most important thing is to be intentional about your morning and realize that it is valuable and should be treated with respect.
Whether you are naturally awake and productive or wake up with the mental capacity of a zombie, here are some of the most effective ways to start your day that will help you improve your morning routine and the rest of your day.
Stay In Bed a Little Longer
Although it may seem counterintuitive, this is one of the most effective ways to start your day. As you gradually get used to the fact that you need to get out of bed, you’ll find it much easier to get up.
The phase of waking up and getting out of bed is the most difficult part of the day for many people. So do not make the effort… Not for now. Before you leave the house, spend about 10 minutes snuggling under the covers – your later self will thank you!
Sleep With The Blinds Open
Do not hide from the sun. This is the best way to wake up your body naturally. It will make your transition from night to morning much easier! It’s difficult to go from pitch black at night to bright light (especially in the early morning), so make it easier on yourself by leaving your blinds partially open. That way, waking up to an alarm clock will be a little less daunting.
Morning Stretch
Although this seems like one of the most obvious ways to start the day, many people overlook it. You can not expect your body to be instantly warmed up, invigorated and ready to go after so many hours of sleep. You can stretch in bed by simply stretching your legs and arms upward, or you can get out of bed and stretch while standing – whichever works best for you.
Meditate
Meditation, if you have not heard, is awesome. And it’s not just hippie nonsense anymore; science confirms the benefits of regular meditation. It can help reduce anxiety, increase concentration, and reduce those pesky chattering thoughts that occupy your mind. It’s beneficial to meditate first thing in the morning because it allows you to start your day in a grounded, pleasant mood. There is ample evidence that meditation can make you a better leader. So you are not only doing something for yourself, but for the entire team.
Drink Lemon Water
Lemons are nutrient-dense and high in potassium, vitamin C, and antioxidants. Drinking lemon water right after you wake up will boost your physical and mental energy. Lemon water improves the absorption of nutrients in the stomach, so you have energy throughout the day. To ensure complete absorption, drink it first thing in the morning (on an empty stomach). Also, wait 15-30 minutes after drinking it before eating (the perfect time to get some exercise). However, if you do not mix the juice with water, it will harm your teeth, so make sure you do.
Journal
Take the first 10 minutes after waking up to either reflect on the events of the past day or plan what you want to do in the coming day. Combined with meditation, keeping a journal is a great way to clear your mind before starting your work day.
Exercise
Exercising early in the morning ensures that you have time for it throughout the day, and improves your self-control and energy levels. GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms your brain and ensures you can control your impulses, is released when you move your body for just 10 minutes. It’s one of our favorite ways to get things done in the morning. If you do not have time before you go to work, there are many workouts you can do at your desk.
Avoid Screens Until Breakfast
If you immediately jump on emails, text messages and Facebook, you’ll lose focus and your morning will be dominated by other people’s wants and needs – a frenetic way to start the day. It’s much healthier to spend those first moments of the day doing something calming that creates a peaceful, good mood for the rest of the day.
A Hearty Breakfast
One of the most productive ways to start the day is to eat something for breakfast. People who eat breakfast are less likely to be obese, their blood sugar levels are more stable, and they are less likely to feel hungry throughout the day. A nutritious meal boosts your energy level, improves your short-term memory, and allows you to concentrate more intensely and for longer periods of time.
